Do Young People Have Stress?
There may be much more to be said of “simplistic” labor where one feels and sees an actual accomplishment for their efforts. Have industrialization, urbanization and progress come at a cost? This certainly seems to be the case. Nowadays, stress can be identified as being the grave ills besetting modern society.
This can be see very clearly in the large cities that have become ever present the world over. The ever growing middle class are the ones hurt the most. The pressures at the work place and then additional worries at home and the mere task of commuting every day to work can have a debilitating impact on any individual. It is no surprise that the number of divorces have also increased proportionally to the rate of development.
It is not only adults but also others are impacted by stress. Also,it has effected the youth generation. The phenomenon of school shootings has only occurred during the last fifteen years or so. Pressures and influences on the lives of young people today greatly differ from the problems faced by previous generations.
There is definitely less pressure on them to find a job at an early age especially in more affluent countries. There are other worries however. The pressure to be accepted is still the first concern of most young people today and one way some cope is to become invisible.
There are other sources of stress. Young people today are engaging in relationships well beyond their emotional maturity and therefore are burdened by anxieties they cannot cope with. The ups and downs of modern relationships together with the impact of television on how the youth view these relationships can cause a lot of confusion in these young minds. Another important fact that one has to take into account is the lack of communication between youngsters and their parents. Distractions such as television, gaming consoles, MSN, Facebook etc and the fact that parents are working longer hours or are divorced means that there is less chance of the two parties actually sitting down and talking.
In this day and age, no one can deny the presence of stress or its negative byproducts. There are increased efforts at workplaces, schools and even in the armed forces to help individuals deal with this. Most schools have student counselors who advise students and help them deal with their problems. Many companies have courses or meetings wherein they educate others about stress.
Therefore, the main way in which we can alleviate this social ill is by educating the young and by teaching them how to protect themselves mentally. Only then can future generations become more adept at fighting this malaise called stress.
